How do I cross-examine or examine in-chief people or matters effectively?

I always wonder about how to actually do it. I feel like im good at following my curiosity wherever it leads or getting to as best I can approximate truth but what is the process of designing the questions like prosecutors or investigators do, like truth architects?

Edit: i dont think im necessarily “skillful”, I just kind of follow ny curiosity and contradictions arouse my interest
