It should be noted that in cases like these, LOCAL labor laws outside the US typically say that staff can’t be furloughed or asked to work without pay. Like any sane person would just naturally assume.

It’s rare that a country doesn’t have those protections in place and would let the local staff fall victim to bad employment practices like this.
