I hadn’t read a book since I left Japan in 2019 and my depression set in. The other day, as I was reading up on electric fields, it came to me, out of the blue, that I want to practice my pronunciation of Hungarian, one of my first languages, and to increase my vocabulary thereof, so I decided to check out my library’s collection of Hungarian novels to read out loud.

I settled on A Pál Utcai Fiúk, since it wasn’t too long. Has anybody here read it? What did you think?

I just finished reading the whole novel out loud, one chapter at a time, sitting outdoors in a quiet street or park or the likes. Well, all but the last three pages, since I was crying like a child and I couldn’t produce a single word.

I cannot recommend this book enough! It has been translated to tens of different languages, so give it a shot! 😊🇭🇺
